Cerqui beats Biagi for pole in Misano
Alberto Cerqui claimed his third pole in his rookie season in the Superstars Series. The Team BMW Italia driver will lead the grid in Misano after a close fight with team-mate Thomas Biagi, who claimed the second spot on the grid, only six-thousandths shy of the 19-year old.
Former World Touring Car Championship driver Luca Rangoni will start behind the BMW duo, alongside fellow Mercedes driver Luigi Ferrara. Max Pigoli will share the third row with Andrea Bertolini’s Maserati. Christian Montanari and Stefano Gabellini will start from the fourth row, while Alessandro Pier Guidi put the second Maserati Quattroporte in ninth.
Johnny Herbert rounds out the top ten, while an engine problem for multiple Superstars Series champion Gianni Morbidelli meant the former Formula One driver could only manage 14th place on the grid.
2010 WTCC Independents’ champion Sergio Hernàndez came 20th with the sole Campos Racing BMW M3 E92.
The first race will start at 11:40 (local time).
