Bertolini dominates in Spa
Andrea Bertolini won both races in this weekend’s double header at Spa-Francorchamps.
Maserati’s Bertolini won the first race, taking advantage of a technical problem for Romeo Ferraris Mercedes driver Johnny Herbert, whose engine stopped and then restarted while he was leading with only a handful of laps to go.
The British driver was also passed by Luigi Ferrara in the CAAL Racing Mercedes. Michela Cerruti took a strong fourth ahead of Romeo Ferraris team-mate Max Pigoli and the top place BMW, that of Thomas Biagi.
In race two, Bertolini led from lights to flag, taking the win ahead of Max Pigoli and Luigi Ferrara. The two BMW Team Italia M3s of Thomas Biagi and Stefano Gabellini rounded out the top five.
Ferrara still leads the championship, but Bertolini’s double win means he is now only ten points shy of The CAAL Racing driver.
Thomas Biagi lies in third, 36 points behind Ferrara and 7 ahead of his team-mate Alberto Cerqui, who only collected four points in Spa.
