Volvo leaves STCC for Swedish Racing League by TTA 2012
Volvo has decided to leave the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship for Swedish Racing League by TTA in 2012 and commits for four years.
“TTA has created conditions for sporting justice. At the same time it is going to be easier for importers of other manufacturers to enter the championship, as no one is going to be dependent of central development support,” said Derek Crabb, Motorsport Director of Volvo.
SRL by TTA is going to feature silhouette touring cars with a common 3.5 litre V6 engine, equipped with KERS.
“This is an important question for us at Volvo. We have taken part in all STCC races since the start, we have developed cars specifically for STCC and we have carefully looked at future solutions. We want to show that we are continuing to work on our sport at our home market and that we have full confidence for TTA,” said Crabb.
The fact that all teams and drivers get the same base material with SRL by TTA next season is something Volvo puts emphasis on.
“The same base material means that even if we win, then Volvo enthusiasts and media knows that it was because our race engineers and drivers made the best job,” said Crabb.
Volvo currently takes part in STCC with two cars for Tommy Rustad and Gabriele Tarquini.
