Richard Göransson leaves STCC for TTA 2012

Reigning and quadruple STCC champion Richard Göransson today announced that he is going to take part in the newly formed Swedish championship TTA next season with WestCoast Racing.
“TTA has got an interesting concept with faster cars, better conditions for teams, drivers and organisers and an exciting setup for spectators and sponsors. Next year is going to be a new challenge for me as driver that I am looking forward to,” said Göransson.

Göransson has claimed four STCC titles, 37 victories and 61 podium finishes in 119 STCC races and is aiming to finish his current season in style.

“I am proud of what I have accomplished in STCC and most of all that I am the driver with most titles. I am going to finish the STCC finale in style,” said Göransson.

The BMW driver has driven for WestCoast Racing for six seasons and team boss Dick Jönsson-Wigroth is pleased to continue the relationship.

“I am of course happy and proud that Richard Göransson and WestCoast Racing continues a successful relationship. Richard is an important part of WestCoast Racing and he further strengthens TTA. WestCoast Racing is going to race in TTA next year and it is an incredible strength that Richard is with us on that journey,” said Wigroth.

Göransson is currently placed sixth in the championship and without reach of the title after missing the first six races of the season due to a back injury from a crash in the STCC season opener.

“It is funny to see that Chevrolet needs three cars to win the championship and that the Biogas team needs no less than four cars. We just needed one car to win the championship last year. We were unable to defend our title this year due to the injury in the first race, but I am going to give everything to fight for the victories this weekend. Anyone wanting to win races this weekend needs to take me in to their calculations and really go for it,” said Göransson.
