Sini tops Superstars Vallelunga test
The Superstars Series held a test at Vallelunga earlier this week, during which the rain prevented the teams from gathering the full data as the track was completely wet towards the end of the day.
Francesco Sini was the quickest of the day, clocking a 1:42.054. Solaris Motorsport have worked on the differential and Sini was reported to be very pleased with the Lumina’s progresses. Another car was fielded on the occasion, with Finnish Antti Buri and Simone Iacone testing the American car.
The famous single-seater team Durango fielded two BMW M3 E92s for Giovanni Berton and Swiss Davide Durante. The team is looking at fielding two cars for next year and some appearences may be done during this year, possibly at Pergusa.
“We can be really satisfied, my team-mate and I couldn’t try the car with new tyres due to the rain which came late during the day, but I’m still happy,” said Berton.
The other car, driven by Durante, had a fuel pump issue which forced the Swiss to sit out of the first morning session.
The test also marked the first public appearance for the much-awaited Mercedes C63 AMG Coupè, brought to the track by Nico Caldarola and Luca Rangoni who both completed several laps on the newly arrived German car. Caldarola, who is also the team principal of Roma Racing Team, which developed the car, talked about the new car:
“Unfortunately the rain prevented us from working as we wanted on the new C63 AMG Coupè. Two and a half sessions were not enough to fully work on the setup, the car still needs more developement work and a better weight distribution. We were still able to test a new set of shock absorbers and on September, 21st we will be back at Vallelunga for another test to continue the developement of the coupé.”
The Superstars Series is scheduled to resume on September 16th at Pergusa.
