Giammaria takes finale pole as Kristoffersson struggles

Superstars Series newcomer Raffaele Giammaria took pole position for Mercedes in the last event of the season. The Italian, a experienced GT driver and an official instructor for young talents for Italy’s ASN, was also the quickest in this morning’s damp first free practice.

Max Pigoli in the Jaguar XFR will start from second after being more than half a second slower than the Mercedes, while late entrant Simone Iacone took third in his Solaris Motorsport Chevrolet Lumina.

BMW’s Thomas Biagi was the highest-placed among the championship contenders in fifth, while Vitantonio Liuzzi will start from the fourth row in his Mercedes from seventh position. Championship leader Johan Kristoffersson was over four seconds off the pace in his Audi RS5, struggling due to the 60kg of success ballast, and will start 14th and second-to-last on the grid.

Andrea Larini completed a good day for Romeo Ferraris with fourth, while Christian Fittipaldi struggled as well as he placed his Maserati in 13th. Gianni Morbidelli set no lap times due to a shock absorber failure early in the session.

The first race is scheduled for tomorrow at 11.05 CET.
