Roma Racing Team to field Mercedes Coupé with Ferrara
Roma Racing Team has confirmed that the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupé, developed directly by the team, will be on track this season with former Italian Formula 3 champion Luigi Ferrara driving for the team.
Team manager Nico Caldarola will step down to the role of Team Manager, leaving the driving duties to the former CAAL Racing driver, who had already worked with the team at Pergusa at the last race of the 2012 season, obtaining a second place in the second heat.
On that occasion Caldarola infamously crashed into Johan Kristoffersson’s Audi RS5 following a mistake at the Schumacher chicane, nearly denying the Swede the title and caused heavy damage to the brand new car. This year the plan is to develop the car further and with strong goals, as Caldarola himself explains:
“I’m really happy to have Luigi as a driver. With him behind the wheel of the C63 AMG Coupè we can set our goals high. Last year in Pergusa we had a great feeling and that’s when I started thinking to give him a seat. Personally, I will focus on the role of team manager, with the goal of taking Roma Racing Team to compete with the best teams in the Superstars Series.”
Ferrara is also happy and thankful for the opportunity to go back to the Series full-time:
“I was impressed with the way the team worked in Pergusa last year. It’s definitely an experienced team and I’m sure I made the right call.
“This year I want my payback after narrowly missing out on the title twice in the Superstars Series. The C63 AMG Coupè is a great car, on which we will work more and more to make it even more competitive.
“During the official trackdays we will be able to understand which way to go. I would like to thank Caldarola and my sponsors for this opportunity. I will try to give them something back on track.”
